Caring for Our Community (CFOC) was launched 24 March 2021 when community leaders representing churches, civic organizations, and community agencies came together to discuss opportunities to better serve our community. Their belief was that, serving together–pooling our energies and resources–we could more positively impact our Southwest Virginia community by tackle immediate needs together.
The thirteen community leaders present unanimously agreed to launch the Caring for Our Community Initiative.
The original CFOC partners were:
- Ebenezer Lutheran Church
- Freedom Tabernacle
- Highlands Fellowship
- Kiwanis Club
- Marion Morning Rotary Club
- Marion Noon Rotary Club
- Mountain CAP
- Resurrection Community Church
- Royal Oak Presbyterian Church
Since the initial launch, the list of partners has continued to grow. Other organizations are always welcome.
CFOC activities consist primarily of an annual community workday. Volunteers give from one to four hours of their time and talents to one of several projects being undertaken each year. Volunteers are assigned to projects based on skills levels, physical stamina, and personal interest. Each service project is managed by an appropriately skilled project leader who supervises the volunteers assigned to his/her project team.
CFOC is a volunteer organization operating as an auxiliary of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church. A multi-organization Board of Directors reviews potential service projects, selects service projects for implementation, helps solicit funds for project implementation, and monitors financial management of CFOC. All CFOC staff are volunteers; there are no salaried staff. All funds received by CFOC are utilized for implementation of approved projects.
The geographical scope of CFOC operation is the Marion, Virginia area. Please contact us with any questions at info.cfoc.marion@gmail.com
